Remittance inflow $2.15bn in first 22 days of August

The country has received $2.15 billion in remittances during the first 22 days of August, reflecting a strong flow of money from expatriate Bangladeshis ahead of the end of the month.

According to the latest Bangladesh Bank data released on Sunday (August 23), remittances reached $2.14748 billion between August 1 and 22. At an exchange rate of Tk 123 per US dollar, the amount is equivalent to around Tk 26,414 crore.

Private commercial banks accounted for the largest share of the inflow, receiving $1.51748 billion during the period. State-owned banks brought in $357.84 million, while specialised banks received $267.67 million. Foreign banks operating in Bangladesh accounted for another $4.48 million.

Among individual banks, Islami Bank Bangladesh led remittance collection with $430.7 million during the first 22 days of August.

Bangladesh Krishi Bank ranked second with $240.5 million, followed by BRAC Bank with $187.85 million. Agrani Bank received $135.1 million, while Trust Bank and Sonali Bank brought in $118.41 million and $116.01 million, respectively.

The latest figures indicate that remittance inflows are maintaining strong momentum, with Bangladesh Bank expecting the flow to rise further before the end of the month.
