The country has kicked off the 2026-27 fiscal year with a strong surge in remittance inflows, as expatriates sent $1.542 billion through official channels during the first 14 days of July, marking a 21.8 per cent year-on-year increase.

The latest data released by the Bangladesh Bank shows the country received $1.266 billion in remittances during the same period last year, highlighting a sharp rise in foreign currency inflows at the start of the new fiscal year.

According to the central bank, expatriate Bangladeshis remitted $115 million on July 14 alone, underscoring the continued momentum in inward remittance.

The robust inflow is expected to strengthen the country's foreign exchange reserves, ease pressure on the external sector and provide further support to the economy in the opening weeks of the new fiscal year.
