Remittances exceed $2 billion in first 21 days of July, up 23.5%

Bangladesh received more than US$2 billion in remittances through formal channels during the first 21 days of July, marking a 23.5% year-on-year increase, according to the latest data from the Bangladesh Bank.

The central bank's figures show that between 1 and 21 July, expatriate Bangladeshis sent home US$2.095 billion in remittances. During the same period of the previous financial year (2025–26), the country received US$1.696 billion.
According to the data, remittance inflows reached US$567 million in the first five days of the month. The steady increase in inflows pushed the total beyond the US$2 billion mark within 21 days.

Compared with the corresponding period last year, remittance receipts increased by US$399 million, representing a 23.5% growth.

Officials and industry observers attribute the rise to an increasing preference for sending money through formal banking channels, along with government incentives and policy measures aimed at encouraging the use of legal remittance services.

They believe that if the current trend continues, total remittance inflows for July could exceed US$3 billion by the end of the month.

Economists say the continued growth in remittances will help strengthen Bangladesh's foreign exchange reserves, finance import payments and support the country's external balance.
