Remittances reach $2.56 billion in Oct
In October 2025, expatriates sent $2.56 billion in remittances, marking a 7 per cent increase compared to the same month last year. According to the latest data from Bangladesh Bank, remittances in October 2024 stood at $2.4 billion.
During the first four months of the current 2025–26 fiscal year (July–October), expatriates have sent a total of $10.14 billion, up from $8.9 billion during the same period of the previous fiscal year.
Bankers have reported that the country’s dollar market is now stable. The reduced influence of informal hawala markets has made it easier to send remittances through formal banking channels. Currently, expatriates are receiving rates through banks that are almost at par with the open market, allowing them to send money comfortably.
They also noted that since the interim government assumed office, remittance inflows through banking channels have increased significantly. Over the past year, an average of nearly $2.5 billion per month has been transferred to the country through formal channels.
