Remittances reach Tk 35,000 crore in July
A total of $286 million in remittances or expatriate income entered the country through official banking channels in July, the first month of the 2026-27 fiscal year. In Bangladeshi currency, the amount is approximately Tk 35,400 crore (at an exchange rate of Tk 123.83 per dollar), according to a Bangladesh Bank report published on Sunday (August 2).
The report showed remittances in July 2026 stood at $285.90 million, up 15.4 percent from $247.80 million in the same period last year. In June, the final month of the previous fiscal year, remittances were $282 million.
In the 2025-26 fiscal year, total remittances through official channels reached $3,559 million, up from $3,032.90 million the previous year — an increase of $526 million or 17.3 percent. This was the highest annual remittance inflow in Bangladesh's history.
Central bank officials attributed the steady growth to government efforts to curb the hundi (informal) system, cash incentives for expatriates, improved banking accessibility and expanded opportunities for sending money through legal channels.
