Renowned poet Ashish Sanyal passes away
Renowned poet Ashish Sanyal, a prominent figure in Bengali literature, has passed away at the age of 86.
He breathed his last at his home in Kolkata at 11:30pm on Monday (November 25).
Sanyal left behind his wife, daughter Durba Bhattacharya, an English newsreader at Kolkata DD-7, grand-daughter Mrittika Bhattacharya, and countless admirers in both Bangladesh and India to mourn his death.
Poet Muhammad Samad, president of the National Poetry Council of Bangladesh, comfirmed the death.
Expressing deep sorrow over his passing, Poet Muhammad Samad, said, "We pray for the peace of this great poet’s soul, and he will be remembered for his remarkable contribution to Bengali literature, which will be cherished by Bengali-speaking people worldwide."
Sanyal, born on January 7, 1938, in Susang, Durgapur, Mymensingh, in undivided Bengal, was vastly known for his exquisite poetry, children's literature, and contemplative works. He was also recognized for his significant contributions to organizing the World Poetry Festival in Kolkata.
He also contributed regularly to various newspapers and magazines, including 'Nabakallol' and 'Dweepbani'.
