The government has initiated a repatriation programme for citizens wishing to return from conflict-affected Iran.

Several hundred Bangladeshis are expected to be brought back under the plan.

Officials at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the operation could begin on Thursday, March 19, if all arrangements proceed smoothly.

Under the initial plan, around 200 to 250 Bangladeshis will be transported by road from Iran to the Azerbaijani border and then flown from Baku’s Heydar Aliyev International Airport on a special charter flight to Dhaka.

The repatriation effort is being coordinated by Bangladesh’s ambassador to Turkey, M. Amanul Haque, who is overseeing the operation in Azerbaijan.

Additionally, two officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Dhaka departed for Baku on Tuesday night to assist with the process.

A ministry official confirmed that the initiative is aimed at facilitating the safe return of Bangladeshis eager to leave conflict-hit areas of Iran. The repatriation is expected to commence shortly.
