Reports of UAE visa ban on Bangladeshis not true: Envoy
Recently, a report spread claiming that the United Arab Emirates had imposed a ban on worker and visit visas for Bangladeshis. The news, along with screenshots, was shared widely on social media. However, Ambassador Tareq Ahmed confirmed that the website spreading this news was not an official site of the UAE government.
He said, the UAE has not made any official announcement regarding a visa ban for Bangladeshis. The website that published this information does not belong to the UAE authorities.
The news originally appeared on a site named “UAE Visa Online” on September 17, claiming that worker and visit visas had been banned for citizens of nine countries including Bangladesh. After it was published in some Bangladeshi media outlets on Saturday (September 20), it quickly went viral on social media.
Although the report sparked huge debate and criticism online, the Bangladesh Embassy in the UAE rejected the claims.
The Embassy stated that the matter will be discussed with the UAE government after the weekend holidays. It also urged everyone not to pay attention to any rumours regarding visas without an official statement from the concerned authorities.
