Rescue operations began around 7:45 pm on Wednesday, March 18, nearly seven hours after nine coaches of the Dhaka-bound Chilahati Express 'Nil Sagar Express' derailed in Adamdighi, Bogura. Relief trains from Ishwardi and Parbatipur arrived at the accident site in the Bagmari area to start the operation.

A railway official on duty said the work to place the coaches back on track may continue throughout the night, with the line likely to be cleared by Thursday morning, around 9:00-10:00 am.

The Dhaka-bound Chilahati Express departed from Santahar station for Tilakpur around early morning carrying homebound passengers for Eid. Shortly after, nine coaches derailed in the Bagmari area of Adamdighi upazila. Sixty-six passengers were injured. Among them, 20 are undergoing treatment at Naogaon Sadar Hospital, 40 were discharged after primary treatment, and six were discharged after treatment at Bogura Adamdighi Upazila Health Complex.

Due to the accident, north-bound trains have stopped operating on that route. The Railway Ministry has informed that as an alternative arrangement, passengers at both ends of the accident site will disembark and board other trains to complete their journey. The ministry sincerely expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers.
