Research, skilled manpower key to building new Bangladesh: ICT Minister
There is no alternative to research, innovation and skilled human resources for building a new Bangladesh, Posts, Telecommunications and ICT and Science and Technology Minister Fakir Mahbub Anam has said. He said artificial intelligence is not just a technology but a major driver of the future economy, employment, innovation and national competitiveness.
The minister was speaking as chief guest at the inauguration of an 'Artificial Intelligence Research Lab' and 'AI Project Competition-2026' at Daffodil International University in Savar on Saturday, July 11.
He said university-based AI research labs will serve as hubs for research, innovation and technological excellence. Such initiatives will equip students with modern AI technology skills and play a vital role in conducting research, developing innovative prototypes and creating industry-ready solutions.
The minister said the government's sustained initiatives in ICT have created a strong foundation for the country's digital transformation.
At the event, the minister distributed awards to 12 winning teams in six categories from among 145 projects submitted in the AI project exhibition.
The event was chaired by University Trustee Board Chairman Dr Md Sabur Khan, with Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr S M R Kabir, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Shams Iqbal and other dignitaries present.
