Resignations of two advisers to be effective with schedule announcement: Press Secretary
The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the upcoming 13th parliamentary election and referendum at 6pm on Thursday. With the announcement, the resignations of two student advisers will become effective, said Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam.
He disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday December 10 evening.
Shafiqul Alam said that Mahfuz Alam, adviser to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan, adviser to the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, submitted their resignation letters to Chief Adviser Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus at around 5pm after appearing at State Guest House Jamuna.
He said their resignations will take effect with the announcement of the election schedule. “As the election scheduled for February is to be announced, their resignations will become effective with that announcement, which is likely tomorrow.”
Shafiqul Alam said that after accepting the resignations of the two student advisers, who played a key role during the July uprising, the Chief Adviser wished them well for the future.
Replying to a query from reporters, he said, “Many said the election would not happen just to gain views. But the Chief Adviser and the government have consistently stated that the election will take place in the first half of February. The government is working toward that goal.”
