Retired Major General Sharif Uddin named new NESCO Chairman
The government has appointed Retired Major General Sharif Uddin as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors of Northern Electricity Supply PLC (NESCO), replacing the incumbent board chairman Rafiqul Haque Mohammad, secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The appointment was announced in a letter issued on Tuesday (July 14) by the Power Division under the Ministry of Power, Energy and Mineral Resources, signed by Senior Assistant Secretary Sheikh Mezbah Ul Sabrin.
According to the ministry's directive, the necessary steps have been ordered to include Sharif Uddin as chairman of the NESCO board in place of Rafiqul Haque Mohammad.
Speaking on the appointment, Sharif Uddin said the entire NESCO board will be reconstituted shortly, and he will formally assume office once the new board members are appointed.
"I expect the restructuring process to be completed very soon," he said.
According to party and family sources, Sharif Uddin currently serves as an adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman. He also contested the 13th National Parliamentary Election as the BNP candidate from the Rajshahi-1 (Godagari-Tanor) constituency. He is the brother of the late Barrister Mohammad Aminul Haque, a former minister and three-time MP from the same constituency.
