Reza Kibria joins BNP
Reza Kibria, son of former finance minister Shah A M S Kibria, has officially joined the BNP.
On Monday, December 1, he joined the party by presenting flowers to BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir at the BNP chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.
After joining, Reza Kibria said he was proud to become a part of the BNP and that he had formally joined the party today.
BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul said they were proud to welcome Reza Kibria into the party. He conveyed congratulations on behalf of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and acting chairman Tarique Rahman, saying the party welcomed him warmly.
Mirza Fakhrul added that Reza Kibria would be able to contribute significantly to building Bangladesh in line with the BNP’s 31-point outline.
Reza Kibria intends to contest the upcoming national election from Habiganj-1 under the BNP’s sheaf of paddy symbol. The BNP has announced candidates for 227 seats, keeping Habiganj-1 vacant.
Notably, in the 2018 general election, Reza Kibria contested from the same constituency as a candidate of the BNP-aligned Jatiya Oikya Front under the sheaf of paddy.
Before the 2018 election, Reza Kibria joined Gono Forum and later became its general secretary. The party eventually split into two factions centred around him. Later, he joined Nurul Haque Nur to form Gono Odhikar Parishad, where he served as convener. That party also split into two over his leadership, after which he became the founding convener of Amjanatar Dal.
