Rezauddin Stalin appointed Shilpakala Academy DG
Poet Rezauddin Stalin has been appointed as the new Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy.
Confirming the development on Sunday, the Academy’s Secretary Mohammad Warez Hossain said, “He joined the ministry today and will arrive at our office shortly.”
A leading poet of the 1980s, Rezauddin Stalin currently serves as Member-Secretary of the National Poetry Council. He received the Bangla Academy Literary Award in 2006 for his contributions to poetry.
Poet Mohan Raihan, Convener of the National Poetry Council, welcomed the appointment, saying, “Poet Rezauddin Stalin has been named the new Director General of Shilpakala Academy. We are on our way there.”
The post had remained unstable following the resignation of Liaquat Ali Lucky on August 5 last year, after the fall of the Awami League government amid a mass student-led uprising. On September 9, theater director and researcher Professor Syed Jamil Ahmed was appointed for a two-year term, and the Academy’s council was restructured.
However, Syed Jamil Ahmed resigned on February 28 this year, citing grievances against the ministry. Subsequently, Secretary Mohammad Warez Hossain took over as Acting Director General on March 4. Later, on September 14, Additional Secretary (Administration) of the Cultural Affairs Ministry, Abul Faiz Md. Alauddin Khan, was given additional charge of the post.
Now, within just a week, the government has handed full responsibility to poet Rezauddin Stalin.
