Rickshaw passenger robbed at knifepoint in Chattogram, video goes viral

A video showing a rickshaw passenger being robbed at knifepoint in Chattogram has gone viral on social media.

The incident reportedly took place at Satish Babu Lane in Patharghata, behind Kotwali Police Station.

Police could not immediately confirm when the robbery occurred, although claims circulating on social media said it happened early Saturday morning.

The video shows two alleged robbers armed with knives stopping a rickshaw and taking money and other belongings from the passenger one by one. At one point, they appear to struggle to remove something from the passenger’s right trouser pocket.

One of the men is then seen cutting the pocket with a knife while the other holds a knife toward the passenger.

The passenger is heard repeatedly saying, “Brother, I’m giving it to you,” as the incident unfolds.

When the passenger moves, one of the alleged robbers is seen striking his left leg with a knife. The man then begins cutting open the passenger’s pocket with the knife.

Meanwhile, residents of nearby buildings can be heard shouting, “Hey! Hey! Hit them!” The two men then flee the scene on a battery-powered autorickshaw.

The video of the incident spread across social media on Saturday morning, prompting renewed concerns over street robberies in the port city.

Abu Zayed Mohammad Najmun Nur, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station, said police had seen the video but no victim had yet approached the station.

“The video has come to our attention. However, no victim has come to the police station in this regard. After learning about the incident, we have intensified patrols in the area,” he said.
