Riyad’s another house found, Tk2.98 lakh seized
Police have found another residence connected to Abdur Razzak Bin Sulaiman Riyad, former leader of the Students Against Discrimination (SAD), in capital'’s Badda area. Inside, they found Tk298,000 in cash. Investigations are ongoing to trace other locations where extortion activities may have taken place.
Gulshan Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter on Thursday (July 31). Earlier, on Wednesday (July 30), police recovered cheques worth approximately Tk2.25cr from Riyad’s house in capital's Nakhalpara.
On that day, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Deputy Commissioner (Media) Talebur Rahman said, "The cheques were seized from Riyad’s house. Riyad is currently in remand. The matter is under investigation, and further details will be revealed after the inquiry."
On July 26, Riyad and four others were arrested by police from a flat on Road 83 in Dhaka’s Gulshan area. The residence is owned by former Awami League lawmaker Shammi Ahmed.
Following the arrest, a case was filed. Four of the detainees, including Riyad, have been placed on seven-day police remand. The others in custody are Ibrahim Hossain Munna (24), Convenor of the Dhaka Metropolitan chapter of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, and its members Sakadawn Siam (22) and Sadab (21).
