BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has alleged that the ruling party is orchestrating a dangerous propaganda campaign against the BNP, despite the party’s ongoing nationwide membership renewal program.

In a statement issued Monday, Rizvi claimed the smear campaign began on August 5 and is part of a broader strategy to create an uneven political playing field. “This is a continuation of the infamous ‘Minus Two’ formula from the 1/11 political period,” he said.

Rizvi also criticized recent student union elections, alleging that general students were deceived in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) polls. He raised concerns over what he called a “planned narrative” involving the introduction of a “loyalty-based quota” ahead of the RUCSU elections.

On international affairs, Rizvi referred to UK MP Tulip Siddiq, stating that while her election was a matter of pride, her removal from a ministerial role due to alleged corruption had tarnished that image. “Despite having evidence involving passport and identity documents, she continues to deny the allegations,” he added.

He further alleged that close associates of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have been linked to fraudulent activities abroad. “Controversial bureaucrat Mokhlesur Rahman remains in service under a contract, and politically motivated appointments of DCs and SPs suggest an attempt to bring the administration under party control,” Rizvi said.

Questioning recent appointments, he asked, “How can someone accused of corruption be placed in an institution as important as the Planning Commission?”

Rizvi also accused the government of trying to manipulate the administration to block a BNP victory in the upcoming national elections. However, he expressed optimism that such efforts would not succeed, stating, “Those within the administration who are part of this scheme will ultimately fail.”

Ahead of the upcoming Durga Puja, Rizvi dismissed concerns over possible unrest, calling on BNP leaders and activists to remain vigilant against any provocation or sabotage.
