Rizvi sees'political reason' behind Shammo's murder

BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi has said that Dhaka University (DU) student and Chhatra Dal leader Shammo was killed because of political reasons.

He made this remarks at a human chain demanding justice for the murder of DU Chhatra Dal leader Shahriar Alam Shammo in front of the National Press Club on Thursday (May 15).

Rizvi said: "What was the reason behind Shammo's murder, what wrong did he do? The police have arrested three people, they are vagabonds. I think there is a political reason behind it. If there is no political reason, who would kill someone like Shammo? Why would vagabonds kill him?"

Raising a question, Rizvi said: "Was Shsmmo killed because he stood against those who oppose the national anthem? Why will blood be shed in the university? Why will there be bloodshed on the campus?"

About the Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, Rizvi said: "Students went to the DU VC to seek justice for the murder. But he made fun of them, he was annoyed by their words. The VC does not like those who do politics with the spirit of nationalism. The DU VC and the proctor believe in the ideology of a political party."

Rizvi also said: "I will tell the police department to investigate thoroughly. People do not take everything lightly."

Shahriar Alam Shammo was the literature and publications secretary of Dhaka University (DU) Sir A.F. Rahman Hall unit Chhatra Dal. He was stabbed to death by miscreants in front of the Kalimandir gate of Suhrawardy Udyan on Tuesday night (May 13).
