RMG workers continue Dhaka-Mymensingh highway blockade
For the third consecutive day, workers from the TNZ garment factory in Gazipur have blocked the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, demanding the payment of their overdue wages.
The protest, which started on Saturday, persisted into Monday morning, causing heavy traffic jams and significant disruptions for commuters.
The workers are demanding the payment of three months' overdue wages and have vowed to continue their protest until their demands are fulfilled. As a result of the ongoing demonstration, at least 20 garment factories in the surrounding area declared a holiday to avoid potential disruptions.
Gazipur Metropolitan Police, industrial police, and army personnel have been attempting to clear the workers from the highway, but the protesters have remained resolute and continued their blockade.
Gazipur Industrial Police Superintendent Sarwar Alam stated that efforts were underway to engage with the factory owners to find a resolution. He also mentioned that the workers had been urged to leave the highway, with hopes of resolving the issue by the end of the day.
