RMG workers in Gazipur block highway for arrears

Workers from two factories in Gazipur city have blocked the Chandra-Nabinagar highway, protesting for overdue wages of one month and other demands.

The workers stated that the Beximco Industrial Park, which houses garment and ceramic factories, employs 41,000 people. Among them, garment workers have been staging road blockades for about a week, demanding the payment of last month’s pending wages.


Meanwhile, workers of Zirani's Doreen Factory have also blocked the same highway since Tuesday morning, protesting for the reinstatement of 13 laid-off staff and the reopening of the factory.

The blockade has caused significant inconvenience to passengers and drivers using the route.

However, vehicles heading to Dhaka have been using alternative roads.

To ensure law and order, a large number of joint forces have been deployed at the protest site.
