RMU VC forced to resign after being labelled ‘accomplice’ of Awami League

Allegations have been raised of forcibly making Vice-Chancellor of Rajshahi Medical University (RMU) Professor Dr. Moha. Jawadul Haque and Section Officer and PS to the VC Nazmul Hossain sign resignation letters.

It has been alleged that a group of people entered the university campus under the identity of ‘common students-public’ at noon on Tuesday (October 6) and caused this incident.

It has been learnt from eyewitnesses and victim sources that a group of people entered the office of the vice-chancellor by force with a procession around 11am. At that time, he was subjected to misbehaviour and physical humiliation by labelling the vice-chancellor as an ‘accomplice’ of Awami League and raising the allegation of giving various works of the university to contractors of Dhaka. Later his signature was taken on a resignation letter that had been written in advance.

After that, there is an allegation that Section Officer and PS to the VC Nazmul Hossain was also forced to sign a resignation letter. After taking the signatures, they were taken out of the office and a lock was hung on the main gate of the university.

Besides, there is an allegation of removing the CPU of the computer and CCTV equipment from the room of the vice-chancellor. At the same time, the electricity and internet connection of the entire campus was disconnected.

Describing the incident, Nazmul Hossain said that from 10am the vice-chancellor was connected to an online meeting of the ministry with senior officials. Around 11am a group of people entered the room by force with a procession and started abusing the vice-chancellor. Later his signature was taken on a resignation letter that had been prepared in advance. After that he was also forced to sign a resignation letter.

Nazmul Hossain further said that when he refused this, he was beaten. Later a signature was also taken from him on the resignation letter by force, he claimed.
