Road accident claims 8 lives in Pirojpur

At least eight people were killed as a bus ran over an auto rickshaw and motorcycle in Pirojpur on Friday (8 March). Another 13 people were injured in this accident. The injured are being treated at Khulna and Barisal Medical College Hospitals.

The accident took place on the Pirojpur-Parerhat local road in Jhautola area around 12.30 pm on Friday.

Five of the deceased have been identified. They are - Swapan, Mansura Begum, Nayeem Hawladar, Hemayet Hawladar and Khairul Farazi.

Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Md Rezowan confirmed the matter. He said, "Initially, it is presumed that the bus experienced a brake failure and ran over an auto rickshaw and a motorcycle. We recovered three bodies from the spot and sent several injured to the hospital. Among them, five more succumbed to their injuries."

Pirojpur Sadar Police Station OC Ashikuzzaman said, "We are on the spot. The details will be informed later."
