Road blocked in Bogura over body of accident victim
In Shajahanpur upazila, Bogura, a woman was killed in a road accident, while her three-year-old son lost a leg in the same incident. In protest, local residents blocked the Dhaka–Bogura highway at Betgari with the victim’s body.
The blockade began on Friday, February 20, at 9.30am, disrupting traffic on the highway for nearly an hour. The road was reopened around 10.30am after Bogura-4 (Kahalu-Nandigram) MP Mosharraf Hossain arrived at the scene and assured the family and locals that their demands would be met. Traffic then returned to normal.
Locals demanded the rapid construction of a flyover at Betgari and financial compensation for the affected family.
The victim, Chameli Khatun, died while undergoing treatment at Bogura Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital in the early hours of Thursday, February 19. She had been admitted following a collision involving a bus and an auto-rickshaw on February 18 at Betgari, in which four auto-rickshaw passengers were seriously injured, including Chameli and her son, Swad.
Although Chameli has died, Swad remains under treatment at the hospital. Doctors said his right leg had to be amputated.
Shajahanpur Kaigari police outpost sub-inspector Moinul Islam said the MP spoke with the protesters at the scene and, after assuring that their demands would be addressed, they cleared the road.
