Road blocked in Rangamati demanding withdrawal of Dipen Dewan's resignation
Local BNP leaders and activists protested in Rangamati on Tuesday again demanding the withdrawal of Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan's resignation letter. They blocked roads and held protest rallies and processions by burning tires.
The programme was held at 6:30pm in the city's College Gate area. Before the rally, a protest procession started from College Gate, which went through College Gate, TTC, Kalyanpur and KK Roy roads and met again at College Gate for the rally.
The leaders and activists blocked the College Gate road for about 20 minutes with slogans like 'I will not accept, I will not accept Dipen Dewan's resignation letter' and 'Cancel the conspiratorial resignation'. This blocked traffic for some time.
Rangamati District unit BNP leader Md. Bachchu Mia said that the Prime Minister has been requested to reconsider the matter. He claimed that if something happens to Dipen Dewan due to the conspiracy of some evil group, the people of Rangamati will launch a strong movement and the conspirators as well as the administration will have to take responsibility for it.
District BNP Education Secretary Shibli Shanti Chakma, District Mohila Dal President Parul Begum, District BNP member Saber Hossain and Municipal unit Shranik Dal General Secretary Kader Ali also spoke at the rally. More than a hundred leaders and activists of BNP and its affiliated organizations were present at the time.
Dipen Dewan submitted his resignation to the Prime Minister last Monday (June 1) citing physical illness. In protest, BNP leaders and activists are holding road blockade programmes for two consecutive days at Kathaltoli on Monday and College Gate on Tuesday.
