Motorcyclists and other vehicle drivers blocked the Dhaka-Khulna highway after not getting fuel at the filling station in Gopalganj.

The blockade was launched at 2:15 pm on Thursday (April 9) by throwing tree trunks in front of the Nigi filling station in the Mandartala area of the highway.

The blockade caused severe traffic jams over a two-kilometer stretch of the highway. Passengers of various vehicles, including long-distance buses, suffered greatly.

According to local sources, even though there was sufficient fuel at the pump since morning, it was not being supplied. Angry at this, the drivers took to the road blockade.

One of the blockaders, Mahasin Molla, complained that despite having fuel at the pump, it was not being supplied. They are suffering due to some complications between the pump authorities and the administration.

In this regard, the pump owner Mizanur Rahman said that the oil supply had to be stopped due to manpower shortage. Instead of five workers, only two workers had to work. Due to the excessive workload, it was not possible to provide fuel as the workers left in the morning.

After receiving the information, the Gopalganj Sadar Police Station reached the spot and lifted the blockade. Traffic movement returned to normal after about an hour. The police said that discussions are underway with the pump authorities to resolve the issue.
