A Roads and Highways Department (RHD) sub-assistant engineer was killed and his seven-year-old daughter seriously injured when a truck rammed over their CNG-run autorickshaw in Naogaon on Saturday night (September 19).

Md Rasheduzzaman, who worked at the Mahadebpur-Patnitala sub-division office of the RHD, died at the scene of the crash around 9pm on the Naogaon-Rajshahi regional highway in Hapaniya, said police and local residents.

Rasheduzzaman was travelling to Mahadebpur with his wife and daughter when the autorickshaw was struck by a speeding truck coming from the opposite direction, according to police and witnesses.

His daughter, Rumaisa Zaman, suffered critical injuries and was taken to hospital for treatment. Rasheduzzaman’s wife escaped unharmed.

Police recovered Rasheduzzaman’s body from the scene and took it to the police station, said Asaduzzaman, officer-in-charge of Naogaon Sadar Model Police Station.

“We are trying to identify the truck involved in the crash,” he said, adding that legal proceedings were underway.

Naogaon RHD Executive Engineer Abul Mansur Ahmed described Rasheduzzaman as a responsible officer and expressed concern over his daughter’s condition.
