No kind of shops will be allowed to set up on the city roads, said Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Md Jahangir Alam. He said this at a press briefing after a special meeting on law and order situation in Dhaka Metropolitan area on Wednesday (November 6). Stating that the law and order situation in Dhaka has improved more than before, the adviser said, "Various steps will be taken to improve it further." Jahangir Alam said shops will not be allowed on the streets, but no decision has been made regarding setting up shops on the footpath. The adviser said, "Extortion has increased compared to before, but it will not be allowed in any way.”

রাস্তায় কোনো ধরনের দোকানপাট বসতে দেয়া হবে না বলে জানিয়েছেন স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা অবসরপ্রাপ্ত লেফটেন্যান্ট জেনারেল মো. জাহাঙ্গীর আলম। বুধবার (৬ নভেম্বর) ঢাকা মেট্রোপলিটন এলাকার আইনশৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি নিয়ে বিশেষ সভা শেষে প্রেস ব্রিফিংয়ে তিনি এই কথা জানান। ঢাকার আইন-শৃঙ্খলা পরিস্থিতি আগের চেয়ে অনেক উন্নত হয়েছে উল্লেখ করে স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা বলেন, ‘আরও উন্নত করতে নানা পদক্ষেপ নেয়া হবে।’ রাস্তায় দোকানপাট বসতে দেয়া হবে না জানিয়ে জাহাঙ্গীর আলম বলেন, ‘তবে ফুটপাতে দোকানপাট স্থাপনের বিষয়ে কোনো সিদ্ধান্ত হয়নি।’ যত প্রভাবশালী হোক চাঁদাবাজি নিয়ন্ত্রণের হুঁশিয়ারি দিয়ে উপদেষ্টা বলেন, ‘চাঁদাবাজি আগের তুলনায় বেড়ে গেছে। তবে কোনোভাবেই চাঁদাবাজি করতে দেয়া হবে না।’
