Robber killed by accomplice’s knife during attempted mugging in Dhaka

A suspected robber was fatally stabbed by his own accomplice while attempting to attack a pedestrian during a mugging in Dhaka’s Kadamtali early Saturday (August 29).

The man, believed to be around 35, was critically injured near the Baraitala Bhangabridge area in Nama-Shyampur in the early hours. He was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared him dead at around 5:30am.

However, the identity of the deceased has yet to be confirmed.

According to Shojib Kumar Baroi, inspector (investigation) of Kadamtali Police Station, three suspected robbers intercepted two pedestrians near the bridge.

One of the suspects allegedly grabbed a pedestrian while the other two tried to take his money and belongings. At one point, when one robber attempted to stab the pedestrian with a switchblade, he accidentally struck his accomplice from behind, police said.

The two other suspects fled the scene, leaving their injured accomplice on the road.

Police later rescued him and took him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The body has been kept at the hospital morgue. Police are investigating the incident and working to identify the deceased and track down the other suspects.
