Robbers attack AC Land sitting outside during load shedding, 6 injured
Assistant Commissioner (Land) (AC Land) of Muradnagar Upazila of Comilla, Shakib Hasan Khan, was attacked by a gang of armed robbers while hanging out with friends outside his house due to a power outage in Araihazar of Narayanganj.
The AC Land and five others were injured in the attack. The gang allegedly raided a house in a neighboring area on the same night and looted cash and gold ornaments.
The incident took place around 1 am on Saturday in Dhandi and Rainadi-Atadi areas of Haijadi Union of the upazila.
According to local sources, Shakib Hasan Khan, a resident of Dhandi village of Araihazar, was staying at his house on vacation. As there was no power in the area at night, he was sitting on the side of the road with some friends. At that time, an armed gang of 10 to 12 people came there and ambushed him.
It is alleged that the robbers seriously injured Shakib Hasan Khan, Mukul, 38, Rajib, 32, Rubel, 36, Faruk, 32, and Mukul's wife Dalia, 33, by slashing them with sharp weapons. When the people around came forward to hear their screams, the robbers quickly left the scene.
Later, the injured were rescued and first taken to the Araihazar Upazila Health Complex. After receiving primary treatment there, seriously injured were sent to Dhaka for advanced treatment. It is learned that AC Land Shakib Hasan Khan suffered a chest injury and is undergoing treatment.
Locals claim that about an hour after the attack, the same group of robbers raided the house of a man named Sumon in the neighboring Rainadi-Atadi area. They took the family members hostage at gunpoint and looted Tk 2.70 lakh in cash and about 14 bhari of gold ornaments.
Regarding the incident, Araihazar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Sabzel Hossain said that after receiving the information, the police visited the scene. If a written complaint is received, a case will be accepted and necessary legal action will be taken subject to investigation.
Meanwhile, Araihazar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Asadur Rahman said that the robbers hacked whoever they found in front of them while fleeing. The injured AC Land has received medical treatment and law enforcement agencies are conducting operations to identify and arrest those involved in the incident.
