Roommate dumped Obaidullah's body parts in 5 places: Police

After killing his roommate Mohammad Obaidullah in Motijheel, Shaheen Alam dumped his dismembered body parts in five places in Dhaka.

Police said that he stuffed the body parts in black polythene and dumped those in different places between 12 midnight and 8:30 am the next day. The hotel employee was behaving normally even after the murder.

Harun-or-Rashid, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Motijheel Division, gave this information at a press conference at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media Center on Minto Road in the capital on Sunday.

Police said that a severed leg wrapped in black polythene was first recovered from the road in front of Scout Bhaban in Nayapaltan at 2am on Friday. Later, two severed hands were found near Gate No. 13 of Gulistan Stadium around 9:30am on Saturday. Another leg was recovered from the platform of Kamalapur Railway Station around 2:30pm on the same day. The deceased was later identified through fingerprints.

The deceased Obaidullah was a resident of Shibpur in Narsingdi and worked in the marketing department of a homeopathy clinic. Based on his information, the police arrested Shaheen on Saturday afternoon. During initial interrogation, he confessed to the murder.

Police said that Shaheen came to Dhaka from Habiganj about three months ago and took a job at a hotel in Gulistan. Later, he quit the job due to low salary. Then he moved into his childhood friend Maruf's house in Kamalapur. When Maruf moved to Habiganj, Shaheen started living with Obaidullah on the sixth floor of a house on Kabi Jasim Uddin Road for two months. Later, he took a job at the Hirajheel Hotel in Motijheel.

On the night of the incident, on his way home from work, Obaidullah called him and asked him to bring cigarettes. When Shaheen told him that he did not have money, Obaidullah gave him money. Later, he used him to buy bread and kebabs. Shaheen got annoyed because he had to repeatedly go up and down from the sixth floor after iftar during the month of Ramadan.

At night, when Shaheen went to sleep, Obaidullah was talking on the phone loudly. An argument broke out between the two. At one point, Shaheen got angry and brought a chapati from the kitchen and hacked him to death. Later, to avoid punishment, he severed the body's hands, feet and head and cut the waist into two pieces.

According to the police, he then wrapped one leg in black polythene and threw it in a dustbin in Nayapaltan on a bicycle, two hands at the gate of Gulistan Stadium, one leg at Kamalapur Railway Station and the head in a garbage bin in Kamalapur.

On Saturday morning, he took two more parts of the body in a bucket and threw it under the Salehpur Bridge in Aminbazar in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw. Later, after his arrest, the head was recovered from the garbage bin based on the information given by him. However, the chest part of the body has not been found yet.

Police said that a murder case has been filed against Shaheen at Motijheel Police Station in this incident.
