RpMCH director changed after one day tenure

The director post of Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH) has been changed within a day following various complaints of mismanagement, corruption, and irregularities.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Thursday, November 8, confirming the appointment of Brigadier General Ashiqur Rahman as the new director of RpMCH.

Brigadier General Rahman has been assigned to the position on deputation and is tasked with overseeing the healthcare department, Anwarul Islam, the outgoing director, confirmed the change to a national daily.

On August 5, following protests by students, Chief Advisor of the Interim Government, Muhammad Yunus, visited the hospital and took action. As a result, four officials, including the former director Mohammad Yunus Ali, were transferred to the Directorate of Health in Mohakhali on August 12.

Shaswat Bhattacharya, president of SANAK, said, "People have been talking about corruption and mismanagement for a long time, but no action was taken. Now, with a new director from the army, there’s hope for reform."
