RU Chhatra Dal demands ban on Jamaat-Shibir's 'covert politics'
Rajshahi University (RU) Chhatra Dal has demanded a ban on what it calls the 'covert politics' of Jamaat-Shibir at the university. The organisation's leaders warned that if these groups do not return to mainstream politics, their political activities at the university will be completely banned.
The demand was raised through a wall-writing programme beside Chhatra Dal's party tent on the university campus on Wednesday afternoon, April 22.
At the programme, RU unit Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi alleged that after the mass uprising, Jamaat-Shibir has been trying to create an unstable environment in educational institutions by presenting themselves with an Islamic identity. He claimed they had engaged in politics with hidden identities in the past and were involved in violent activities at various times.
Rahi further said Islami Chhatra Shibir was involved in violent politics in the past and is still trying to continue it in various ways. He alleged that through their anti-independence role and recent violent activities, they are creating panic among students.
He warned, "The covert politics of Shibir will no longer be tolerated at Rajshahi University. They must immediately return to mainstream politics, otherwise their political activities will be banned."
RU unit Chhatra Dal General Secretary Sardar Jahurul said the July mass uprising began through wall-writing. He called upon students to raise their voices through wall-writing demanding a ban on covert politics in all campuses across the country.
He further said no form of covert politics will be allowed in the post-mass uprising period, and there will be no place in this country for anti-Bangladesh forces and their collaborators.
Central and various hall unit leaders and activists of Chhatra Dal were present at the programme.
