RU JCD leader expelled over derogatory remarks on female students
Rajshahi University (RU) unit of Chhatra Dal has permanently expelled one of its leaders for making derogatory remarks about female students on social media.
Anisur Rahman Milon, Vice President of Shah Makhdum Hall Chhatra Dal, referred to 91 female students of RU's July 36 Hall as "unpaid sex workers" in a Facebook comment. The comment was made in response to a post by Chhatra Dal Vice President and RU student Jannatul Naeema Tuhina, who had protested the hall provost’s decision to summon the students without clear justification.
The decision to expel Milon was announced in a press release issued on Thursday, September 4, by the branch’s office secretary, Nafiul Islam Jibon.
Following the incident, the RU Chhatra Dal temporarily suspended Milon from his position and formed a two-member investigation committee to verify the allegations. The committee included Senior Vice President Shakilur Rahman Sohag and Senior Joint General Secretary Shafiqul Islam Shafik.
According to the findings, multiple attempts were made to contact Milon for an explanation, but he failed to provide a satisfactory response and later switched off his phone. The committee concluded that the offensive remark was deliberate and not the result of account hacking, as Milon had previously claimed.
“This confirms that the derogatory comment was made intentionally,” the press release stated. “As a result, Milon has been expelled for life from his organizational position as well as from primary membership in Chhatra Dal. All members are instructed to cease any form of organizational communication with him.”
RU Chhatra Dal President Sultan Ahmed Rahi and General Secretary Sardar Zahurul Islam jointly made the decision.
“We are committed to upholding the rights and dignity of women,” said President Rahi. “Chhatra Dal has a zero-tolerance policy towards any form of bullying or harassment. When one of our own female leaders was targeted, we acted swiftly by suspending the accused and launching an impartial investigation.”
Rahi further stated that the RU Chhatra Dal has formally requested the university administration to take appropriate legal action against Milon under the university’s disciplinary regulations.
“This punishment serves as a strong message to those who engage in online bullying and harassment — particularly the bot groups on social media platforms — that such behavior will not be tolerated,” Rahi added.
