RU professor killed, another critically injured in road crash
A professor from Rajshahi University (RU) was killed and another was critically injured in a road accident on the Rajshahi-Naogaon Highway in Paba Upazila early this morning (October 10).
The deceased was identified as Professor Shib Shankar Roy, 58, of the Department of Marketing. The injured is Professor Asaduzzaman Badsha of the Philosophy Department.
The accident took place around 6:30am near the Nowhata Jute Mill in Rajshahi’s Paba area.
According to police, an unknown vehicle hit their motorbike and fled the scene.
Paba Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam confirmed that police recovered the victims shortly after receiving the news.
Both teachers were taken to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH), where Professor Roy was declared dead. Professor Badsha, who has been admitted to Ward 8 of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) with severe injuries and is currently in the ICU and remains unconscious.
According to RU's Assistant Proctor Professor Gias Uddin, both were on their way to Nawhata around 7am on a motorbike for a morning fishing trip when an unidentified vehicle hit them near Nawhata Jute Mill. Roy, who was riding on the back, suffered a severe head injury and likely died on the spot.
"Roy died in the crash and Professor Asaduzzaman is now receiving treatment at Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RAME)," the OC added.
