The Islami Chhatra Shibir–backed candidate for Assistant General Secretary (AGS) in the upcoming Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election, has been accused of gaining admission illegally under the ward quota.

The controversy comes amid recent protests demanding the abolition of the ward quota, which had earlier delayed the RUCSU polls.

Documents, circulating on social media since Wednesday (October 15), claim SM Salman Sabbir, scored 32.5 marks, below the required 40, but was still admitted through the quota.

However, Sabbir declined to comment, saying such allegations were part of “pre-election propaganda.”

Sabbir, a Statistics student (2019–20 session), represents the Shibir-backed Sammilito Shikkharthi Jote panel. The election is taking place Thursday (October 16) with 305 candidates contesting 23 posts from 10 panels.
