The Islami Chhatra Shibir unit at Rajshahi University (RU) has distanced itself from RUCSU General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar, saying the organisation will not accept responsibility for his actions or financial dealings.

At a press conference at the university's Transport Market on Tuesday (August 25), Rajshahi University Shibir president Muzahid Faisal alleged that Ammar withdrew Tk 370,000 citing official expenses and showed the money as expenditure under various university offices.

"We find the claimed expenditure unrealistic," Faisal said, adding that, according to Shibir representatives, the combined expenses of the other offices should not exceed Tk 50,000-60,000. He demanded a detailed, document-backed account showing how much was spent by each office.

Faisal also stressed that Ammar was not a member of Shibir's panel, and therefore the organisation would not take responsibility for his activities or financial accounts.

Shibir also placed a five-point set of demands, including an immediate schedule for the next RUCSU election, a clear roadmap for making the university fully residential, housing allowances for non-residential students, a modern medical centre and steps to make the university Senate functional.

Calling for RUCSU elections to be included in the university's academic calendar, Faisal said nearly 10 months had passed since the previous election and preparations for the next one should begin immediately to ensure annual elections.

He also claimed that the student body had contributed to reducing bullying and campus drug use, ensuring political coexistence and ending practices such as seat trading, guest-room culture and mass-room culture. He said residential seats were now being allocated based on merit and seniority.

RUCSU representatives elected from different halls and Shibir general secretary Mehedi Hasan were among those present at the press conference.
