Zahidul Islam Saimon, a first-year student at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) of Rajshahi University (RU) who was airlifted to Dhaka in critical condition after suffering a stroke, has passed away.

He breathed his last around 6:30pm while undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka on Wednesday (August 12).

The matter was confirmed by Rajshahi University Proctor Professor Mahbubur Rahman.

Confirming Saimon's death, IBA Director Professor Dr. Shariful Islam said, "Yes, Saimon breathed his last this evening. It is hard to accept his passing away like this."

He added that Saimon's body will be taken to his family in Chattogram.

According to university sources, Saimon fell seriously ill after suffering a stroke last Saturday (August 8). He was initially admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH). As his condition did not improve while undergoing treatment there, the university administration arranged to airlift him to Dhaka on Sunday morning (August 9) around 10:30am.

He subsequently remained under treatment at the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital in Dhaka, where he passed away on Wednesday evening after four days of medical care.

Saimon's untimely death has cast a shadow of deep grief among the teachers, students, and peers at Rajshahi University.
