Rajshahi University (RU) has planned to hold admission tests in all eight divisional cities for the first time. As part of this, Barishal has been proposed to be added as a new regional centre for the 2026-27 academic session admission tests.

The matter was considered at the second meeting of the admission sub-committee held at the Vice-Chancellor's office on Tuesday, September 8. The university's Public Relations Office Administrator Professor Dr SM Kamruzzaman confirmed the development.

He said the first meeting of the admission sub-committee had initially decided to hold tests in seven cities: Dhaka, Rajshahi, Rangpur, Khulna, Chattogram, Mymensingh and Sylhet. However, considering the demands of students from Barishal division, the second meeting proposed including Barishal as a test centre as well.

Meanwhile, the admission sub-committee has recommended that the admission tests for the next academic year begin with the 'B' unit. According to the proposed schedule, the 'B' unit (Commerce) test is proposed for January 8, 2027, followed by the 'C' unit (Science) on January 9 and the 'A' unit (Humanities) on January 16.

However, these dates are not final. The proposed schedule will be finalised after approval from the university authorities. The application period has been proposed for November 12 to 27.

University sources said the initiative to expand test centres to divisional cities is aimed at reducing hardship for students from different regions and making participation in admission tests easier. With the inclusion of Barishal, RU admission tests will now be held in all eight divisions of the country.
