XI admission to end by Sept 15, online applications likely to open next week
Admission to Class XI at colleges, madrasas and technical institutions across the country is expected to begin next week, with the entire process scheduled to be completed by September 15, education officials said Wednesday (August 12).

Principals of 226 madrasas with zero pass rate summoned by board
Principals of 226 madrasas where not a single student passed the 2026 Dakhil examinations have been directed to explain the reasons behind the academic debacle. The Bangladesh Madrasah Education Board issued a notification regarding the matter on Tuesday. According to the notice, the heads of these institutions must appear in person at the office of Controller of Examinations Professor Md. Faruk Ahmed with a written statement.
Professor Dr. Azam Khan appointed as new proctor of JnU
Economics Department Professor Dr. Md. Azam Khan has been appointed as the new proctor of Jagannath University (JnU). He succeeds Professor Dr. Mohammad Nasir Uddin from the Computer Science and Engineering Department. Professor Azam currently serves as the president of 'Sada Dal,' the BNP-aligned teachers' organization at the university.
All examinees from NKM High School and Home School achieve GPA-5
Nasima Kadir Molla High School and Home School in Narsingdi has maintained its consistent success in the SSC examinations. This year, all 382 students who appeared for the examinations from the institution passed with a 100 percent pass rate and achieved GPA-5. Among them, 376 were from the Science department and six from the Business Studies department.
Rajuk Uttara Model College achieves 100 percent pass rate
Rajuk Uttara Model College has topped the charts this year with a 100 percent pass rate among 907 students who appeared for the SSC examinations, maintaining its unique and consistent excellence. Along with achieving the milestone of a 100 percent pass rate, the majority of the institution's students have secured the highest result, GPA-5.
226 madrasa institutions record zero pass rate
In this year's SSC and equivalent examination results, no student from 226 madrasas across the country passed. The pass rate in this education board is 55.49 percent.
Bangladesh Bank allows use of international cards for education expenses abroad
Bangladesh Bank has permitted the use of international cards to pay tuition fees and other education-related expenses for higher studies abroad. From now on, authorised dealer (AD) banks will be able to issue debit, prepaid or credit cards to students for paying various fees to foreign educational institutions.
Over 13 lakh seats to remain vacant in collage this year
In the upcoming academic year, the online admission process for class XI will be conducted as before, based on merit and students' preference order. However, due to a significant decline in the pass rate in the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations, a large number of seats in colleges and madrasas are likely to remain vacant this year. Even if all successful students are admitted, approximately 13.61 lakh seats will remain vacant.
SSC results see major decline, lowest pass rate in 19 years
This year's SSC and equivalent examination results have further highlighted the weaknesses in the secondary education system. The pass rate across 11 education boards has dropped to 62.25 percent, the lowest in 19 years since 2007. The pass rate declined by 6.20 percentage points in a single year. The number of students achieving GPA-5 has also decreased.
