RU VC, pro-VCs take charge after 6 deans resign

Following the resignation of six deans identified as pro-Awami League at Rajshahi University, the responsibilities of the affected faculties have been temporarily divided among the vice-chancellor and two pro-vice-chancellors.

Acting Registrar Professor Dr Iftikharul Alam Masud confirmed the decision at around 12:00pm on Monday, December 22, saying the arrangement was made to keep academic, examination and administrative activities running smoothly.

Under the new arrangement, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Saleh Hasan Naqib will oversee the faculties of Science and Engineering. Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Dr Mohammad Main Uddin will be in charge of the faculties of Business Studies and Law, while Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Education, Professor Dr Md Farid Uddin Khan will oversee the faculties of Social Sciences and Earth Sciences.

University sources said that on Sunday, December 21, RUCSU General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar and his supporters locked the offices of the deans as part of a protest. To avoid possible unrest, the six deans held a special meeting with the vice-chancellor later that night and decided to resign voluntarily, citing their inability to continue their duties amid the situation.
