Jubo League leader Zahirul Islam Rubel, who opened fire on students in Rajshahi during the nationwide anti-discrimination student movement, has been arrested from Cumilla. RAB arrested him around 1:15 on Friday night, says a press release. According to the release, Zahirul Islam Rubel, who fired at the students in Boalia area of Rajshahi on August 5, was arrested from Daudkandi in Comilla. According to RAB, on August 5, local Jubo League leader Zahirul Haque Rubel was seen shooting at the students at Alupatti intersection in Rajshahi city with two weapons in both hands. At that time, Awami League leaders and workers at various levels also took part in the attack with weapons.

বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলনের সময় রাজশাহীতে ছাত্র–জনতার ওপর গুলিবর্ষণকারী যুবলীগ নেতা জহিরুল ইসলাম রুবেলকে আটক করা হয়েছে। শুক্রবার (১৩ সেপ্টেম্বর) রাত পৌনে ১টার দিকে র‌্যাবের একটি দল তাকে কুমিল্লা থেকে আটক করে। র‌্যাবের গণমাধ্যম শাখা এক বার্তায় এ তথ্য জানায়। বার্তায় বলা হয়, গত ৫ আগস্ট রাজশাহীর মহানগরীর বোয়ালিয়া এলাকায় বৈষম্যবিরোধী ছাত্র আন্দোলন চলাকালীন ছাত্র–জনতার ওপর হামলা ও গুলিবর্ষণকারী জহিরুল ইসলাম রুবেলকে রাত ১২টা ৪৫ মিনিটে কুমিল্লার দাউদকান্দি থেকে আটক করা হয়েছে। ৫ আগস্ট রুবেলকে রাজশাহী নগরীর আলুপট্টি মোড়ে দুই হাতে দুটি অস্ত্র নিয়ে ছাত্র–জনতার ওপর গুলি করতে দেখা যায়। ওই সময় আওয়ামী লীগের বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের নেতা–কর্মীরাও অস্ত্র নিয়ে মহড়া দেন।
