Russia congratulates Khalilur Rahman

Russia has congratulated Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman on being elected as the President of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. The Russian Foreign Ministry congratulated him after the results were announced in the General Assembly Chamber at the UN Headquarters in New York on Tuesday (June 2).

The Russian congratulatory message said, “Heartfelt congratulations to Bangladeshi Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman on being elected as the Speaker of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly. His professionalism and diplomatic experience will be the key to the successful and efficient functioning of the General Assembly in the upcoming session.”

Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman was elected as the President with 99 votes in the vote held at the UN General Assembly last Tuesday. Bangladesh has been conducting an extensive diplomatic campaign for the past three months to be elected to this important international position.

Dr. Khalilur Rahman will serve as the President of the UN General Assembly for one year. He replaces former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
