Former Bangladesh Rifles officials who were sacked following the Pilkhana carnage have blocked the Shahbagh intersection, demanding reinstatement in the force, which is now known as Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB). Family members of those imprisoned following the massacre have also demanded their release. The intersection remains blocked as of filing this report around 1:30pm. On 17 December, Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam said the Ministry of Home Affairs would form a committee within the next five working days to ensure justice for the BDR massacre. The announcement came amid growing calls for justice and accountability for one of the most tragic and unprecedented events in the country's history.

পিলখানা হত্যাকাণ্ডের পর বরখাস্ত হওয়া বিডিআরের সাবেক সদস্যরা শাহবাগ মোড়ে সড়ক অবরোধ করে নিজেদের পুনর্বহালের দাবি জানিয়েছেন। পূর্বঘোষণা অনুযায়ী, এদিন সকাল ১০টার দিকে তারা প্রথমে কেন্দ্রীয় শহীদ মিনারে জড়ো হন। পরে প্রধান উপদেষ্টার বাসভবন অভিমুখে পদযাত্রা শুরু করেন। পদযাত্রাটি শাহবাগ থানার সামনে এলে পুলিশ তাদের আটকে দেয়। এ সময় তারা হত্যাকাণ্ডের পর কারাগারে বন্দি হওয়া তাদের পরিবারের সদস্যদেরও মুক্তির দাবি করেছেন। প্রতিবেদনটি লেখা পর্যন্ত (দুপুর দেড়টা) শাহবাগ মোড় অবরুদ্ধ করে রেখেছেন তারা। পুলিশ জানায়, পরিস্থিতি নিয়ন্ত্রণে ঘটনাস্থলে অতিরিক্ত পুলিশ মোতায়েন করা হয়েছে। গত বছরের ১৭ ডিসেম্বর স্বরাষ্ট্র উপদেষ্টা জাহাঙ্গীর আলম জানিয়েছেন, মন্ত্রণালয় পাঁচ কার্যদিবসের মধ্যে বিডিআর হত্যাকাণ্ডের বিচার নিশ্চিত করার জন্য একটি কমিটি গঠন করা হবে।
