Sylhet City Corporation (SCC) Administrator Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury has said that the removal of all sacrificial animal waste in Sylhet city will be completed within 8 hours after the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha animal slaughter. He said this while addressing a preparatory meeting on the removal of sacrificial waste at the ward level at the meeting room of the Nagar Bhaban on Monday afternoon (May 18).

The SCC Administrator said that Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has given instructions to remove sacrificial waste across the country within 12 hours. However, the Sylhet City Corporation has assured the Prime Minister that this work will be completed in Sylhet in a shorter time, just 8 hours. He also clarified that there is no scope for any laxity or inaction in this regard.

Seeking the cooperation of the city residents, the Administrator said that it is difficult to remove such a huge amount of waste within a specified time without the active participation of the citizens. He requested everyone not to throw waste anywhere and store it in specific places or bags so that the cleaners can easily collect it.

The administrator also announced special awards to bring momentum to the work. He said that the ward in charge of the wards where waste removal is completed most quickly and efficiently will be awarded by the SCC.

In his speech as the chairman, SCC Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rezai Rafin Sarkar said that Sylhet City Corporation has set an example by doing this work successfully and in the fastest time in the past. If everyone at the field level works with 100% dedication, it will be possible to achieve 100% success before the scheduled time this time too.

SCC Chief Revenue Officer Bishwajit Deb, Chief Waste Management Officer Lt. Col. (Retd.) Eklim Abdin, Public Relations Officer Nehar Ranjan Purkayastha and secretaries of various wards and concerned officers and employees of the Waste Management Department were present in the meeting.
