SAD members besiege police station demanding release of leader who threatened OC

'We have burnt the police station, we have burnt SI Santosh' - A group of youths have besieged Habiganj police station demanding the release of Mahdi Hasan, member secretary of the Habiganj District Committee of the Students' Movement Against Discrimination (SAD).

After Mahdi was detained on Saturday (January 3), they besieged Habiganj Sadar Police Station. As the main gate of the police station was closed at the time, they stood outside the gate and started chanting slogans against the police. They were seen raising slogans demanding the immediate release of Mahdi.

The situation in front of the police station became tense for some time due to this incident.

Earlier, the DB police detained Mahdi Hasan, member secretary of the Habiganj District Committee of the Students' Movement Against Discrimination. Leaders and activists of the Student Movement Against Discrimination said that he was picked up from a house in the city's Shayestaganj area on Saturday evening and taken to Habiganj police station in a microbus.

Later, Habiganj Police Superintendent Yasmin Akhter confirmed his detention to reporters. When asked about the reason for the detention, she said that details will be made public later.

Earlier, a video of the incident that took place inside Shayestaganj police station on Friday afternoon went viral on social media, sparking widespread discussion and criticism.

In the face of controversy, the organization ordered Mahdi Hasan to refrain from organizational activities. He was also given a show cause notice. The police last reported the detention of Mahdi Hasan in this incident.
