Sajek Valley reopens for tourists after a week
Rangamati district administration has reopened Sajek Valley and all tourist centres in Baghaichhari upazila for visitors after they were closed for a week due to continuous heavy rainfall, landslides and road communication risks.
The decision was announced in a public notice issued from the Deputy Commissioner's office on Tuesday afternoon, July 15.
The notice, signed by Deputy Commissioner Nazma Ashrafi, stated that the previous ban has been withdrawn and Sajek Valley and all tourist centres in Baghaichhari have been reopened for travel.
However, tourists have been urged to exercise maximum caution while travelling in hilly areas during the monsoon season and to follow district administration directives.
Earlier, on July 7, the administration had issued an emergency notice declaring all tourist centres in Sajek closed indefinitely due to continuous rain, landslide risks and hazardous road conditions.
Some 561 tourists were stranded in Sajek during the adverse weather and road isolation. They were later evacuated safely in phases under army supervision.
The district administration said that with improved weather conditions and normalised road communication, a decision was taken to reopen Sajek and all tourist centres in Baghaichhari, ensuring tourist safety.
