Salahuddin congratulates winners of DUCSU election
Salahuddin Ahmad, a member of the BNP Standing Committee, has extended his congratulations to the victorious candidates of the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election. However, he also raised concerns over reported irregularities and discrepancies during the election process.
Speaking at a discussion meeting held on Wednesday morning (September 10) at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Dhaka, marking the 47th founding anniversary of the Jatiotabadi Mohila Dal, Salahuddin said, “I congratulate those who have won in DUCSU. This is the democratic tradition. Since this election was held after a long hiatus, some irregularities were inevitable.”
When asked whether the DUCSU election would influence upcoming national elections, Salahuddin noted, “Many DUCSU winners under major party banners have gone on to serve in the national parliament. However, none of the independent candidates have yet entered parliament.”
He further emphasized, “No one supports student politics that fosters fascism.”
Notably, candidates from the Islami Chhatra Shibir-backed United Student Alliance secured victories in 23 out of 28 seats. Shadik Kayem won the Vice-President (VP) position, S.M. Farhad was elected General Secretary (GS), and Mohiuddin Khan claimed the Assistant General Secretary (AGS) role by a significant margin.
