Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio attacked, vandalised in ECB area

Content creator Salman Muqtadir’s Brownfish Studio in Dhaka’s ECB Chattar area was attacked and vandalised on Saturday night, with studio equipment, CCTV cameras and furniture damaged and some items reportedly looted.

The incident took place around 10:30pm at the studio, located at New Gini Properties.

Muqtadir later alleged that the attack was carried out in retaliation after he refused to pay extortion money.

He also alleged involvement of local BNP activists, though no immediate response was available from BNP representatives.

In a video posted on his verified Facebook page at 1:33am Sunday (September 27), Muqtadir described the damage and said none of his employees was injured. Images and video footage showed damaged equipment, furniture and CCTV cameras scattered around the studio.

A studio official said a group of around 100 to 150 people entered the premises and began vandalising it. The official alleged that some members of the group were carrying machetes and firearms.

Cantonment police, however, said the incident involved an attack on an office in the ECB area over a dispute concerning possession of the premises.

Muhammad Gias Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Cantonment Police Station, said police reached the scene after receiving the report and brought the situation under control.

Two people were detained from the scene, and a machete was recovered from them, the OC said.

Legal proceedings were being initiated, he added.
