Samabay Bank's 12,000 bhori gold missing: Local govt adviser
Local government adviser to interim government AF Hasan Arif has said that 12,000 bhori of gold of Samabay Bank (cooperative bank) is not being found.
He said this while talking to reporters after attending the annual planning conference of the Bangladesh Academy for Rural Development (BARD) in Cumilla on Sunday (September 29).
Hasan Arif said the cooperative is not able to stand because of the lack of cooperative mentality among the cooperatives. Co-operatives only want to enter the committee; they do not look for the development.
He said, “Some 12,000 bhori of gold of Samabay Bank is not being found. The property of the bank is expropriated. Those who were once in the bank themselves encroached the bank’s property. Legal action is being taken in this regard.”
PPRC Chairman Dr Hossein Zillur Rahman, local government expert Professor Tofail Ahmed, and BARD Director General Saif Uddin Ahmed were the special guests at the meeting chaired by Mosammat Shahanara Khatun, Secretary of Rural Development and Cooperatives Department of the Ministry of Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives.
