Sammilito Islami Bank customers can withdraw money as needed from September
Bangladesh Bank has delivered major relief news for customers of Sammilito Islami Bank. From September 1, individual depositors will be able to withdraw money from their respective accounts as per their needs. Additionally, no 'haircut' or deduction of any kind will be made on deposit profits.
This directive was given during a meeting between Bangladesh Bank Governor Md Mostakur Rahman and Sammilito Islami Bank Chairman Kazi Shairul Hasan and Managing Director Abedur Rahman Sikder on Tuesday, August 25.
Bangladesh Bank said the process of returning depositors' money according to the scheme announced on December 29, 2025, is ongoing. However, to reduce customer inconvenience and meet urgent needs, this new facility is being introduced from September 1.
As a result, individual depositors will be able to withdraw principal amounts from Al-Wadiah current accounts, Mudaraba savings accounts and Mudaraba term deposits as needed, outside the restrictions set in the ongoing scheme. The bank authorities have been instructed to take necessary preparations for this.
Meanwhile, the central bank has also issued directives to eliminate confusion among customers regarding deposit profits. The Finance Minister had earlier announced in parliament that no 'haircut' or deduction would be made on depositors' profits. However, as some customers still had ambiguity on the matter, the Governor directed the bank authorities to clearly inform every depositor about the issue.
The country's largest and only government-owned Islamic bank, which started its journey with around Tk 35,000 crore in capital, has also been urged to quickly resume all normal banking operations.
The meeting was attended by Bangladesh Bank Deputy Governors Dr Md Habibur Rahman, Dr Md Kabir Ahammed, Md Sarwar Hossain and Md Anisur Rahman, along with senior officials of the central bank.
